Your 2019 Fall Essentials

As the days get shorter and the weather gets colder, we leave behind the days of sunbathing on boats, weekends at summer homes and sundresses on patios. We are stuck with the thought “what do I have to look forward to now?”.

The answer is Fall fashion. We trade in our espadrilles, linen dresses and wicker bags for boots, denim, and cashmere. The versatility and opportunity to express yourself during the Fall is ever so present in the art of layering while staying comfortable.

It’s just cold enough for you to wear your cute outfit without having to layer a massive winter coat over it (because if no one can see your outfit, what’s the point?). You deserve to celebrate the the shift in season with a gorgeous wardrobe in which you can conquer in this fall.

If you haven't been planning your fall outfits since May like myself, here are some staple items to have in your repertoire this fall.

The power suit without the shoulder pads. They aren't just for the workplace. It’s a staple piece that be be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. It pairs perfectly with jeans, trousers, skirts and dresses. But have also worn them casually with denim and a simple t-shirt.

Recent trends like blazer dresses, pastel suit sets in style this past spring, or pantsuits (popularized by one of our style icons, Blake Lively) have appeared in the lines of many designers. Investing in one does not have to break the bank either, stores like Aritzia, Zara and Topshop have stylish options. You can also find amazing styles in vintage and thrift stores.

The dad sneaker trend has returned. Some sneakerheads may turn up their noses at the sight of a pair of massive Balenciaga shoes or the basic Filas. But there are so many styles of chunky sneakers that are both fashionable and on trend. They can be paired with trousers for a more professional look or a casual yet chic outfit with a pair of jeans. They are a statement piece that have limitless pairings. An essential for this season.

Denim is an essential part of your fall and winter closet. Infinite pairings and the ability to dress it up and down make a few pairs of high quality jeans a great investment. I recommend a pair of classic blue denim, charcoal/grey jeans and plain black. You can be more original by getting a pair with alternative stitching or hem lines. Different rises and stretches from various brands will fit everyone differently; so it’s important to try on different styles in each brand to know your size and what is flattering for you.

A pair of plaid pants are a great addition to your closet for fall. They add depth and texture to your outfit and pair great with a blouse or sweater. You can go with a lightweight trousers or a pair with wool or cashmere, that will be thicker and keep you warm in the winter. Denim and solid coloured pants are great basics, but I think it’s important to have one or two statement pants to keep things interesting.

Sweaters are a perfect way to fight the fall chill. Wearing one under a leather, bomber or denim jacket gives you the perfect amount of warmth. I recommend cashmere sweaters as you can dress them up or down. It makes for the perfect loungewear essential as its both incredibly soft yet versatile. If you take care of your cashmere sweater properly it was last for the rest of your life, making it timeless
